Boekenhoutskloof is rooted in a compelling blend of historic Cape tradition and trailblazing modern winemaking.
The property that is home to Boekenhoutskloof lies in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley and was established in 1776, making it one of the region’s oldest farms.
The farm’s contemporary name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” — an indigenous Cape Beech tree prized for furniture making. That heritage is honoured by the seven chairs on our wine label, a tribute to the 18th-century craftsmen who created beauty from natural sources, much like the pursuit of fine winemaking itself.

Since the farm’s modern restoration, the winery has been led by Managing Partner and Technical Director Marc Kent — committed to quality on every level, and the driving force behind Boekenhoutskloof’s standing as one of South Africa’s top wineries.
A Syrah specialist, and more
As a wine producer, Boekenhoutskloof is a Syrah specialist. The portfolio also includes two benchmark Cabernet Sauvignons, a Semillon from heritage vines, and a Noble Late Harvest. The winery created the highly successful Syrah-based blend The Chocolate Block, the blended Rhône-style wines of The Wolftrap, and the popular, great-value Porcupine Ridge range.
